Stories From the Camp

The members of Elisha Dyer Camp No. 7 often discover fascinating tales about their Civil War Ancestor or Civil War History in general… Sometimes they even offer compelling stories from their own SUVCW journeys. Below, you will find biographies, narratives and short fiction submitted by our members.

There are many stories that have been told, and there will be many more, but as continue the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, we must pause to consider the stories of 51 living, breathing, REAL Sons & Daughters of men who faithfully served the Union bewteen 1861-1865. Children today, and many adults, consider the war to be ancient history; the stuff of text books and Hollywood. But the very existence of these 51 men & women testifies to the forgotten fact that in many ways, this war is only three generations gone, and that our Nation still shows the wounds of those terrible days.
